WQI is an Environmental Engineering Consulting firm and Specialty Water Analysis Lab that investigates water systems to determine the root cause of an issue.

Our approach separates water quality issues into those caused by water chemistry and those caused by biofilm.

We have developed cost effective approaches for each.

Initial Consultation

First Steps

WQI will be happy to talk to you to find out how we can help in solving your water system issue. Using well records, background information, and previous tests will give us a good point to start finding you a solution.

Investigation

Sampling and Testing

With the information you provide, WQI will come up with a plan for sampling your water system, you can take them yourself or we can send an agent out to collect them for you at an additional cost. Either way, with our battery of tests that include ATP, Total Coliform & E. coli, EEM’s, and our Biofilm Activity Tests we will be able to find the source of your problem.

Consultation

Conclusion

Once the results are in, not only do we give you the data – but we also tell you what it means and the best way to beat it. You will receive a detailed report with the data, our conclusions, as well as our recommendations.

What our Clients say:

**Due to the sensitive nature of our work some clients choose not to display their names.
Nobody wants to be known as that place with the “bad” water.

Our company had a persistent problem getting a safe bacteria test on a newly installed section of municipal water main. Traditional flushing methods and several rounds of chlorination were only partially successful.

Andy diagnosed the likely problem and gave us specific procedures and methods to eliminate the bacteria. What we had been fighting for over a month, we then resolved and tested safe within a week.

I would certainly recommend Andy and his company for any situations that require knowledge, experience, and creative methods to solve a water problem.

Dean McHugh

Owner/President, McHugh Excavating

Andy and WQI have been truly extraordinary in their tireless support to help us solve our complicated water issues. Without their help, we would still be banging our heads against a wall of confusion and lack of information.

Andy is one of the most thorough, thoughtful, and intelligent experts I have ever worked with. His willingness to go the extra mile, to think through a problem far past barriers that have had others throwing up their hands, and to find solutions that are economical and efficient, is amazing. Best is, the treatment we are doing is working! This feels like nothing short of a miracle after 9+ years of attempts to solve our house water issues.

I can’t say enough about how grateful we are to have found WQI. I recommend them highly and with complete confidence.

For years the water industry has misunderstood the complex relationship between: biofilm, corrosion, disinfection and coliform positive results. Dr. Andy Jacque has removed this misunderstanding to quantify these relationships.

Rather than the industry standard of treating the problem, Dr. Jacque identifies the core issue or deficiency and removes it from the equation. In turn the water quality is substantially improved, reducing chemical addition and costly system repairs –  WQI is invaluable to any system operation!

Troy Simonar

CTW Corporation

WQI has provided assistance on large water systems and small building plumbing systems with water quality issues. Their specialized expertise has been used to diagnose the cause of problems and eliminate or minimize that cause – not just add chemicals to the water or install complex filter systems. WQI talks to water system managers and the maintenance staff to customize solutions that are cost effective and can be maintained in a reasonable way.

WQI helped us clean out and rehabilitate multiple water systems and building plumbing systems. We have been able to reduce chemical costs and extend the life of our plumbing equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Water Quality Investigations?

Water Quality Investigations (WQI) is an Environmental Engineering Consulting firm and specialty water analysis laboratory that focuses on solving water quality issues.  Our approach separates water quality issues into those caused by water chemistry and those caused by biofilm.  No issue is too big or too small for us to investigate, and we’ve developed cost effective approaches for each.

We investigate a water system from source to tap to determine the root cause of an issue, then provide recommendations and designs to get your water system up to par.  Our clients include private, municipal, industrial, agricultural, and process water systems using surface water and groundwater.  For a new groundwater well, we can help you or your well driller get the best possible water during the drilling process to help avoid later issues.

WQI uses scientific principals from the fields of microbiology, biochemistry, environmental chemistry, geochemistry, electrochemistry, hydrogeology and environmental engineering to identify and solve water quality issues.

Why is biofilm a main concern?

Many water quality issues stem from the presence of biofilm in wells and water systems. The presence of biofilm can cause lead and copper corrosion, conversion of nutrients as microbes consume/respire/excrete, taste and odor issues, and other reactions which our tests can detect. We are able to develop maintenance plans, design solutions to keep existing systems in use, and can connect clients with outside resources for construction and plumbing needs.

What tests are you certified for?

We are state of Wisconsin, EPA and DATCP certified Total Coliform and E. Coli testing for drinking water, agriculture and surface water.

We currently offer Colilert that can perform bacterial quantification by Quantitray-2000.

If your test is positive, we can test further to determine if it is a biofilm or insect infestation issue.

We are not a compliance lab, although we have many other tests that are not “official” but do help us determine the underlying issues to your water quality.

Why choose WQI over other labs?

WQI performs tests and provides data interpretation, which are geared towards identifying the true source of a water quality issue. Other labs perform tests, but don’t provide detailed data interpretation.  While we can do all the work needed, we will work with other labs to provide additional testing and data interpretation to help them solve a client’s problem.  Our end goal is to separate problems from symptoms so that the problem can be resolved in a cost effective and efficient manner.
